One of my favorite components of the ever popular shabby chic design trend is the use of mismatched furniture -- in this dining room inspiration board I wanted to create the feel that you just pulled a few chairs together from around your home for an intimate and spur of the moment meal. And to keep your table setting from feeling too formal, pairing different china patterns always feels fresh. A few classic Blue Willow plates team great with vintage Lettuceware that's been having a major revival this summer. And it lets you have the luxury of collecting several pieces in lots of different patterns without having to invest in an entire set.
Floral fabrics can look dated quickly, so keep focusing on pattern mixing -- you want some larger florals, some smaller designs, and a few stripes for good measure. As long as you keep a consistent color scheme the different patterns will blend to make a look that reads much more casual and youthful than your grandmother's sitting room. I used this vintage overdyed blue rug to ground the design with a more bohemian feel -- think more flea market in Montemarte than Marie Antoinette.
