When my husband I do find our dream home one day (any day now..), one of the rooms I am most excited to make it our own is the dining room. One of the things on my list of musts is a formal dining room where we can have friends and family over for dinner and such. I read this article on Domaine Home the other day on how to make your dining room look more expensive, and I though it was really interesting!
The first thing they talked about was mismatching your table and chairs. This is totally non traditional of me, but I love this idea. Especially if you score a table somewhere but do not have the matching chairs, you can definitely find some elsewhere that would totally work well!

Statement lighting was another idea they gave. Of course chandeliers or light pendants are always a good idea! I'm still obsessing over this Pagoda light pendant!

Lastly, I love their suggestion on styling your table when it is not in use. Most of us probably won't use a formal dining room for actual dinners or dinner parties that often, so why not style your table with ginger jars (what else) or other decor around your house? It would be a great place to highlight your favorite collection.

Great suggestions! I often think that my dining room looks too old-lady like because the chairs match the table . But they all came together, so it seems kind of silly to get rid of them, right?. I would really prefer a more trendy fabric chair, but may have to settle with a bold fabric seat covering. Suggestions? Jenn
