We're closing in that time of year again; High Point Furniture Market season.  Last fall one of the great new finds Lucy and I came across was the surprisingly affordable Dwell Studio.  Think modern furnishings, fun and graphic textiles, and free shipping.  Excited yet?

Mallory Chair upholstered in Ming Dragon Admiral fabric.  BTW yes, you can order just the fabric from their website to upholster your own furniture or make your own pillows.  At $58/yard it's not going to set you back nearly as hard as a yard of Chiang Mai.

Fusing a west-coast love for a simple, clean aesthetic with a blue and white heavy appreciation for Asian inspired accents, Barclay Butera is a designer that's become a household name since he first emerged on the design circuit in the mid 1990s.  Butera is a one-man brand powerhouse with bedding, furniture, and decor lines, as well as a multiple lifestyle books,  But one look at his work, and you'll see why design lovers keep coming back for more:

His booth at High Point Furniture Market this past fall was one of our favorites!

Magnolia leaves are a time honored tradition in Southern decor, and at Christmastime they take front and center stage.  One of the best places to shop fresh greenery and magnolias is at the NC State Farmer's Market, where internationally acclaimed Weston Farms got it's start back in 2002.  Owner Erin Weston (dubbed the Magnolia Queen by Walter Magazine) grows her magnolias right here in Garner, NC on her family's 30 acre farm.  An art history major, she dabbled in heirloom vegetables and perennials before trying her hand at wreath making from magnolia cuttings, and idea inspired by the fresh fir wreaths being sold at the Farmer's Market.  Her designs were so popular, she had a hard time making them fast enough to keep in stock at her own Farmer's Market booth.

Fast forward more than a decade later, and the Weston Farms brand is now a leading wreath and garland supplier internationally.  Lucy and I stopped into the  Weston Farms booth at High Point Furniture Market this year to check out the latest trends in magnolia swag.

One of my favorite parts of this year's High Point Furniture Market was getting to speak with so many local designers and entrepreneurs.  Based right here out of High Point, North Carolina, the husband and wife design duo of Andrew and Audrey Kane behind Tapestries, Ltd are bringing vintage charm to everything from wall hangings to throw pillows. Audrey's mother, Nancy Herman, started the company over 45 years ago, and at it's outset the company was focused on traditional hand-woven European tapestries.   Like most success stories, they've faced a lot of challenges and are constantly re-evaluating what they can bring to the design world that is unique, new and fresh.  We interviewed Mrs. Kane for our feature today, and are thrilled to share how they've transformed their business, all while maintaining their local NC roots and love of all things vintage.

One of our absolute favorite booths at this year's Market was that of bright and graphic textile designer, Mary Catherine Folmar of Cotton + Quill.  This Alabama based designer personally draws all of her the patterns used in her textiles, and then has them printed onto fabric right here in North Carolina.  Her work is kind of the definition of what we love here at East Meets South; tons of global and Asian influences in her pattern and design choices, with a mix of preppy colors that would seem at home in any traditionally Southern home.

I know I don't have to convince you that combining gold with malachite is a combination for style success, but nobody really does it better than Ashley Childers at Emporium Home.  Her booth at High Point Market this fall was full of fantastic gold accent pieces, with a healthy dose of jade green, leopard print, and deep purples.

The "Bethany Mirror" and "Luck Be A Lady" lamps in both royal blue and jade green were popular photo-ops from all Market attendees it seems (this one via)

As you can see we were big fans too

There were several vendors that kept Lucy and I hanging around snapping some extra pictures at High Point Market, and with Halloween just over a week away, the styling at Noir had a seasonal nod to boot.  Think architectural modern takes on traditional pieces, with little winks of artistic whimsy for the savvy eye.

Look closely and this Cesara chair detailing that looks feminine at first glance really is a take on a rib cage.  This dichotomy in design is what makes Noir so fascinating to me -- if your furniture is so artistic it has multiple interpretations, I think you know you've made a truly timeless investment.

Their lighting is really as perfectly eclectic as the rest of their designs.  This brass geometric star-shaped fixture would look great even in a more traditional home.

If only my home was grand enough for these -- truly show stoppers.  The opaque crystal beads were a great touch, making the light emanating from this chandelier so elegant and soft.

Often times when I see shells, I think beach house. But with this fixture, I think the shell detailing would be perfect for a darker dining room or study.  Picture this with navy walls floor to ceiling and mahogany or cherry furniture.  You're not thinking coastal anymore, are you.

One of Noir's calling cards is their gold accent pieces.  From abstract globes, to reaching hands or these very realistic looking skulls, they have me convinced that anatomy art is not just a personal whimsy.

Where else would you display your collection of gold skulls but on a vertical shelf?

You can find local vendors of Noir here -- unfortunately no NC retailers currently for our local readers (or me!).
